The screen protects roosting birds on the tidal mud flats, either side of the sluice gates on the River Axe estuary from walkers and cyclists.  Nine seating indents create bird hides where visitors can view the birds.   Bird Screen was created with help from many volunteers and lies midway along Brean Down Way, a path between Weston-super-Mare and Brean Fort in Somerset.
